Coun­cil ap­proves $40,000 in arts grants

A NUM­BER of lo­cal artists and com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions will ben­e­fit from nearly $40,000 in fund­ing af­ter Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil yes­ter­day ap­proved their Re­gional Arts Devel­op­ment Fund (RADF) grants.

Mayor Jenny Whit­ney said this is the largest amount of fund­ing ap­proved by Coun­cil un­der the long run­ning RADF grants pro­gram.

Art Whit­sun­day, Latin Mad­ness, Heartists Arts Co­op­er­a­tive, Whit­sun­day Re­gional Li­braries, Dee Jays School of Dance, El­iz­a­beth Long, Arts & Cul­ture in the Trop­ics, Jen­nifer Wood, and sev­eral other artists and or­gan­i­sa­tions all had their grants ap­proved.

The Re­gional Arts Devel­op­ment Fund is a part­ner­ship be­tween Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil and the Queens­land Gov­ern­ment through Arts Queens­land to sup­port lo­cal arts and cul­ture. The suc­cess­ful and long-run­ning RADF pro­gram gives com­mu­ni­ties the flex­i­bil­ity to shape their own arts and cul­tural pri­or­i­ties.
