Juniors a hit in Sarina

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

TENNIS Whitsunday coach Jenny Kirkman has praised the students who participated in the first Junior Development Series (JDS) of the year.

Amy Hungerford, Sienna Mau, Jordyn Mau, Rebeka Beveridge and Sam Lane each took to Sarina at the weekend for the first JDS round robin event of the year.

“[They] played to the best of their ability and demonstrated great sportsmanship,” coach Jenny said.

Meanwhile, Tuesday evening saw David Nolan and Daniel Scott take on Matthew Cowan and Norm Hold in an entertaining game of doubles.

Teamwork was a high priority for both pairs, while Darcy Larkin and Raylene Rasmussen played out tense rallies with Sienna Mau and Amy Hungerford.

Thursday night social tennis hosted tricky kick serves, with Chris Phillips and Tracy Bland taking on Warren Harbottle and Elly Watkins.

Fit, Fun Tennis – the upbeat gym workout on a tennis court – endured hot conditions on Friday morning; however it didn’t stop the ladies from running down plenty of returns.

Saturday saw Celia Smith and Pam Pearce in action while Graham Curtis, John West, Rex Robinson and Keith Miles hit the court later in the day.

In other news, the coaching pupil of the week was Ella Dray.
