Topsy-turvy matches for Air­lie bowlers

SUN­DAY’S so­cial play at the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club pro­vided plenty of mo­men­tum swings.

Rick Wil­liams, Betty Ni­colle and Elaine Kip­pen de­feated Ge­orge Sim­monds, Jo Howes and Keith Beetham 24-19 in a back-and-forth con­test while Kevin Jewell, Derek Brown and Mar­garet Heeney got off a fly­ing start be­fore Keith Dre­witt, Jenny Ry­der and Mau­reen Barnard clawed their way back for a 20-20 re­sult.

In the fi­nal match of the day Barry Zill­mann, Peter Law­ton and Col Howes were con­vinc­ing win­ners over Bev Dre­witt, Nik Fern­bach and Wally Gray 25-13.

On Tues­day two games of ladies’ triples were played, led by Margo Stan­ley, Lane Telford and Louise Ma­honey who de­feated Jo Howes, Noela White­head and Mar­garet Heeney 2118.

Elaine Had­low, Jill Spencer and Elaine Kip­pen also tasted suc­cess, over­com­ing Bev Dre­witt, Regina Aqualina and Di Dob­bins 19-18.

In Wed­nes­day’s men’s jack­pot Jim Cairns and Derek Brown teamed-up to knock down Peter Law­ton and Keith Beetham 20-13 while Barry Zill­mann, Keith Dre­witt and Col Howes got the bet­ter of Ge­orge Sim­monds, Steve Tat­tam and Nik Fern­bach 2220.

The Air­lie Beach Bowls Club hosts bare­foot bowls ev­ery Fri­day from 6pm.
