Topsy-turvy matches for Airlie bowlers
SUNDAY’S social play at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club provided plenty of momentum swings.
Rick Williams, Betty Nicolle and Elaine Kippen defeated George Simmonds, Jo Howes and Keith Beetham 24-19 in a back-and-forth contest while Kevin Jewell, Derek Brown and Margaret Heeney got off a flying start before Keith Drewitt, Jenny Ryder and Maureen Barnard clawed their way back for a 20-20 result.
In the final match of the day Barry Zillmann, Peter Lawton and Col Howes were convincing winners over Bev Drewitt, Nik Fernbach and Wally Gray 25-13.
On Tuesday two games of ladies’ triples were played, led by Margo Stanley, Lane Telford and Louise Mahoney who defeated Jo Howes, Noela Whitehead and Margaret Heeney 2118.
Elaine Hadlow, Jill Spencer and Elaine Kippen also tasted success, overcoming Bev Drewitt, Regina Aqualina and Di Dobbins 19-18.
In Wednesday’s men’s jackpot Jim Cairns and Derek Brown teamed-up to knock down Peter Lawton and Keith Beetham 20-13 while Barry Zillmann, Keith Drewitt and Col Howes got the better of George Simmonds, Steve Tattam and Nik Fernbach 2220.
The Airlie Beach Bowls Club hosts barefoot bowls every Friday from 6pm.
