Club Championship Triples decided
DAN Robinson, Shane May and Wayne Handley were the toast of the weekend’s Club Championship Triples, winning a tense final.
The trio won Sunday morning’s match against Jarrod Murray, Michael Kinnear and Barry Saroglia 2412.
The competition started the previous day, with Robinson, May and Handley winning over Neil Robinson, John Henderson and Bruce Upchurch 33-7 while Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton and Grahame Kinnear had the last laugh against Todd Leys, Steve Lawrie and Luke Kinnear 32-4.
Jarrod Murray, Michael Kinnear and Barry Saroglia won through to the next round with a win over Arthur Williams, Jim Quod and Philip Brown 26-17 while Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann triumphed against Martin Corr, Scott Kinnear and Ben Cutrone 26-12.
The semi-finals, where Jarrod Murray, Michael Kinnear and Barry Saroglia knocked over Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann 22-19 while Dan Robinson, Shane May and Wayne Handley got the better of Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton and Grahame Kinnear 21-20.
Meanwhile in social play on Sunday, Gail Camm and Heather Brown teamed-up to beat John Lahney and Philip Brown 26-20, while Fran Por- ter, Flo O’Hanlon and Reg Russell swept past Kevin Duell, Dot Hinschen and Joy Jeffries 22-17.
In other news, nominations for the Club Championship Fours will close on March 29.
This competition will be played on April 11-12.
The official opening day on Wednesday was greatly enjoyed by the club’s ladies and visitors from Airlie Beach and Wangaratta.Spiders, donated by Lois Read, were won by Margaret Russell, Cathy Holmes, Jo Peasley and Arthur Williams.
The lucky door prize, donated by Joan McGrath, was claimed by Wendy Pomeroy while Norma Daniels won the raffle. Mary Hedgelong, Joyce Patullo and Heather Brown knocked over Cathy Holmes, Wendy Pomeroy and Bev Drewitt 12-7 while Arthur Williams, Flo O’Hanlon and Linda Tickle defeated Norma Daniels, Margaret Wilson and Gail Camm 14-7.
Lill Burke, Margaret Russell and Lillian Harris were also victorious on the day, winning over Barbara Drinkwater, Janet Mortimer and Heather Patullo 16-7 while Jo Peasley, Henny Tattum and Dot Hinschen ousted Vicki Spann, Margaret Heeney and Joy Jeffries 22-1.
The formula for winning the trophy for the day was determined before the games but not announced.
The winners being the closest winning game, which was Heather Brown’s team with a +5 score – runners-up was Maree Daffara’s team (+6).
One of the Club Championship Fours games scheduled for Wednesday’s play was played on Sunday afternoon, with Janet Mortimer, Wendy Pomeroy, Lois Read and Maree Daffara victorious over Norma Daniels, Jo Peasley, Barbara Dammash and Joan McGrath 17-16.
In other news, coaching on Thursday afternoons is proving popular however the club is extending a welcome to more participants.
Coaching starts at 3pm at the Proserpine Bowls Club.
