Club Cham­pi­onship Triples de­cided

DAN Robin­son, Shane May and Wayne Han­d­ley were the toast of the week­end’s Club Cham­pi­onship Triples, win­ning a tense fi­nal.

The trio won Sun­day morn­ing’s match against Jar­rod Mur­ray, Michael Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia 2412.

The com­pe­ti­tion started the pre­vi­ous day, with Robin­son, May and Han­d­ley win­ning over Neil Robin­son, John Hen­der­son and Bruce Upchurch 33-7 while Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear had the last laugh against Todd Leys, Steve Lawrie and Luke Kin­n­ear 32-4.

Jar­rod Mur­ray, Michael Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia won through to the next round with a win over Arthur Wil­liams, Jim Quod and Philip Brown 26-17 while Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann tri­umphed against Martin Corr, Scott Kin­n­ear and Ben Cutrone 26-12.

The semi-fi­nals, where Jar­rod Mur­ray, Michael Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia knocked over Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann 22-19 while Dan Robin­son, Shane May and Wayne Han­d­ley got the bet­ter of Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear 21-20.

Mean­while in so­cial play on Sun­day, Gail Camm and Heather Brown teamed-up to beat John Lah­ney and Philip Brown 26-20, while Fran Por- ter, Flo O’Han­lon and Reg Rus­sell swept past Kevin Duell, Dot Hin­schen and Joy Jef­fries 22-17.

In other news, nom­i­na­tions for the Club Cham­pi­onship Fours will close on March 29.

This com­pe­ti­tion will be played on April 11-12.


The of­fi­cial open­ing day on Wed­nes­day was greatly en­joyed by the club’s ladies and vis­i­tors from Air­lie Beach and Wan­garatta.Spi­ders, do­nated by Lois Read, were won by Mar­garet Rus­sell, Cathy Holmes, Jo Peasley and Arthur Wil­liams.

The lucky door prize, do­nated by Joan McGrath, was claimed by Wendy Pomeroy while Norma Daniels won the raf­fle. Mary Hedge­long, Joyce Pat­ullo and Heather Brown knocked over Cathy Holmes, Wendy Pomeroy and Bev Dre­witt 12-7 while Arthur Wil­liams, Flo O’Han­lon and Linda Tickle de­feated Norma Daniels, Mar­garet Wil­son and Gail Camm 14-7.

Lill Burke, Mar­garet Rus­sell and Lillian Har­ris were also vic­to­ri­ous on the day, win­ning over Bar­bara Drinkwa­ter, Janet Mor­timer and Heather Pat­ullo 16-7 while Jo Peasley, Henny Tattum and Dot Hin­schen ousted Vicki Spann, Mar­garet Heeney and Joy Jef­fries 22-1.

The for­mula for win­ning the tro­phy for the day was determined be­fore the games but not an­nounced.

The win­ners be­ing the clos­est win­ning game, which was Heather Brown’s team with a +5 score – run­ners-up was Ma­ree Daf­fara’s team (+6).

One of the Club Cham­pi­onship Fours games sched­uled for Wed­nes­day’s play was played on Sun­day af­ter­noon, with Janet Mor­timer, Wendy Pomeroy, Lois Read and Ma­ree Daf­fara vic­to­ri­ous over Norma Daniels, Jo Peasley, Bar­bara Dam­mash and Joan McGrath 17-16.

In other news, coach­ing on Thurs­day af­ter­noons is prov­ing popular how­ever the club is ex­tend­ing a wel­come to more par­tic­i­pants.

Coach­ing starts at 3pm at the Proser­pine Bowls Club.
