On the roads
WHITSUNDAY Police will be focusing on the ‘fatal five’ as part of an ongoing traffic operation in the next few weeks. Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Walter, said speed, seatbelts, drink-driving, mobile phone use and fatigue would all be priorities, as well as vehicle defects.
“This would be a good time for people to look at their windscreens and make sure there’s no cracks, make sure their tyres are good and that all their lights and indicators are working,” he said.
Police have conducted 318 RBTs and issued 13 infringement notices including four for excessive speed during the operation to date.
