Cyclone Nathan continues to hover up north
TROPICAL Cyclone Nathan is not expected to impact the Whitsundays over the coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Tropical Cyclone Watch for communities between Coen and Cardwell, well north of here.
While it looks increasingly likely that Nathan will miss the Whitsundays, Chair of the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group and Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney said there was no time like the present to ensure your cyclone emergency kit was stocked and you had assessed your evacuation options.
“Whitsunday residents are reminded to stock your emergency kits with all the essentials, assess your evacuation options if needed, fill your cars with petrol and get cash out of the bank.
“Now is also a good time to check if you live in a storm surge zone.
Tropical Cyclone Nathan is currently a category 2 system approximately 400km east-northeast of Cairns.
The system is moving very slowly, and is forecast to strengthen further to a category 3 system, as it commences its steady path toward the coast.
