Skates on for Trashbags

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

A GROUP of Whitsunday skaters will lace up for their first skate of the year this weekend.

Airlie Beach Trashbags’ members Christine ‘Boss in Boots’ Cleary, Tessa ‘Evin Sinders’ Fagan, Heather ‘Blame Canada’ Knight and Lucy ‘Dr Lucid’ Sawyer will travel to Gladstone to represent the Whitsundays at the annual Epic Scrim.

“It’s a huge event and you learn so much,” Ms Cleary said.

“Skaters of all abilities get to join forces, so the new ones learn from the more experienced ones and it’s a very supportive environment.

“Every skater and official comes away vastly more experienced that they went in. There aren’t too many opportunities to get this kind of intensive practice in remote areas like ours, so we’re very excited for this opportunity.

“As the league’s head coach, I am especially excited for Tessa and Lucy, for whom it will be their first experience of this incredible event.”

The Airlie Beach Trashbags host lessons at Proserpine’s Retro Skate every Sunday morning, or alternatively the Fresh Meat program welcomes players every Tuesday (Whitsunday PCYC) and Thursday (Retro Skate, Proserpine) from 6.30pm.
