IT’S not every day you get to race alongside an Olympian – but that’s exactly what awaits Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon participants.

This year the event welcomes four-time Olympian and World Championship medallist Steve Moneghetti, who will be competing and hosting a free running clinic on the day.

Moneghetti says it was an easy decision to trade Ballarat’s autumn weather for his first visit to Hamilton Island in more than 10 years.

“I visited on holidays many years ago and ran some of the trails, but never envisaged that one day I’d have the opportunity to race over them,” he said.

“It’s definitely a challenge that I’m excited about.”

While long-retired from international competition, Moneghetti’s passion for running and years of training see him traversing the countryside, promoting the sport and competing.

On Hamilton Island he will be passing on his wealth of experience to those eager to learn during a clinic.

Registration is now open for the ninth Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon.

LEGENDARY RUNNER: Olympian Steve Moneghetti will be a big drawcard at the Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon in May.
