Blowin’ Bowen a no go for race

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

STUDENTS from the Bowen and Proserpine State High Schools and St Catherine’s Catholic College were looking forward to a weekend of teams racing on the water in Bowen but unfortunately it was not to be.

With a strong wind warning current, Blowin’ Bowen turned on the breeze and round two of the North Queensland Schools Teams event was cancelled last weekend.

Whitsunday Schools Team spokesman Anthony Hoffman said students and their parents were equally disappointed but made the right decision out of a “duty of care”.

“This was going to be round two of the threeround series with the final in Townsville on the weekend of March 28,” he said.

“What we’ll do know is have more races scheduled for that weekend to make up for what we missed in Bowen.”

Mr Hoffman said based on the Whitsunday Schools Team performance in round one of the event he was hoping for an overall win

“We’d be very happy to win North Queensland but all the kids have to come from one school to be able to qualify for the nationals so we’d have to pass that on,” he said.
