Sea Eagles soar over Bulls
The Whitsunday Sea Eagles downed the Glenmore Bulls during a pre-season practice match at the Whitsunday Sportspark on Saturday.
Beating out the North Rockhampton team by seven points, and hot off the back of their two wins at the annual pre-season carnival the week before, the Sea Eagles are looking forward to a solid season of AFL.
Sea Eagles coach Matt Laskey said the practice match was a good hit-out for the players.
“We played a lot of younger guys on the weekend and we also played some new guys to the club that had their first games,” Mr Laskey said.
“The boys are definitely keen and we were first to the footy most times against the Bulls on the weekend, we certainly wanted it more.
“I think everyone’s just looking forward to round one and the beginning of the season to be honest, they’ve got itchy feet.”
Laskey said the team’s effort over the weekend showed the Sea Eagles had a bit of depth to their side, something the club had issues with last season.
“We sort of struggled for numbers a little bit last year so we’ve picked up five or ten players and it’s making it a lot easier,” he said.
Training takes place from 6pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights and all new players are welcome.
The Sea Eagles have their opening match of the season at Rogers Oval in Mackay against the Eastern Swans on March 28.
