Builder to front court

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

A FORMER Proserpine builder is due to front court on charges of carrying out building work without a contractor’s licence and demanding or receiving excessive deposits under contracts.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) issued a public warning about Steve Preston in April 2014, alleging he had been carrying out unlawful building work in the Proserpine area. “He does not hold QBCC licences and is therefore not able to carry out, or enter into contracts to carry out, building work, including restumping and associated works, carpentry and re-roofing,” QBCC Commissioner Steve Griffin said.

Preston was supposed to appear in the Proserpine Magistrate’s Court on Monday but he failed to show up.

Magistrate Ron Muirhead adjourned the charges to May 4, saying Preston’s personal appearance was required and that everything would be dealt with ‘ex-parte’ if he again failed to appear.
