Extradition for wanted man
SOUTH Australian police flew into the Whitsundays this week for the extradition of a man wanted for trafficking controlled drugs.
Security was tight around Samuel John Kernich as he was led to the Proserpine Magistrate’s Court on Monday in hand cuffs.
The court was told his extradition to South Australia was not opposed and there was no application for bail.
Magistrate Ron Muirhead ordered Kernich to be delivered into the custody of a nominated South Australian police officer for his return to that state and forthcoming appearance in the Adelaide Court.
Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Walter, said Kernich was picked up at a Cannonvale address where a search was conducted at 8.24am on Sunday, March 22.
He said Kernich was not the person named on the search warrant but he was there at the time and police checks established he was a wanted man.
