Letter leads to prison term
WHITSUNDAY woman Samantha Fewings just wanted to help a mate out after he was caught unlawfully using a boat owned by the social club on Daydream Island.
The District Court in Mackay heard Fewings, 29, a chef, had used social club stationary to write a letter authorising her friend's use of the vessel. This caused a police charge against the man to be dropped. It was later reinstated and the man was fined $450 for the illegal use of the vessel.
Fewings pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by producing a false document.
She was sentenced to four months imprisonment fully suspended.
