Stumps drawn on junior season
PROSERPINE’S junior cricket season will conclude on Friday night with presentations.
Last Friday was the last formal round of fixtures; however the club will host a season wind-up with a barbecue and award presentations at the Kelsey Creek Cricket Grounds from 4pm.
On the pitch the juniors went out in style with a series of close encounters.
The under-15 Taipans and Cyclones played their twenty20 game, with the former making first use of the wicket.
Howard McDonald (10) and Warwick Watts (19) got Taipans away to a fast start before the Cyclones pegged them back with accurate bowling. Adam Skaife, Jay O’Loughlin, Noel Waipape and Zac Maynard each took wickets, reducing Taipans to 81.
In reply Zac Maynard (23) and Jayden Lane (18) scored freely before Mat Shoe- bridge (17) and Regan Knight chimed in late.
Mat Hansen, Jack Dwyer and Max Bernett each bowled well, however it wasn’t enough, as Cyclones concluded their innings at 107.
Proserpine Red and Blue were next to face-off, contesting a twenty20 match.
Blues batted first and were led by Lachlan Edmondson (14), Ted Watson (10) and Greg Chapman (9) in their total of 47.
Jack Pini (14), Josh Watson (17), Max Watson (13) and John Frederickson (17) made scoring look easy in reply, as the Reds finished their innings on 80 runs.
The mini-cricketers played a game of double-wicket with a number of players finding the boundary.
In other news, the club would like to thank all parents and volunteers who have helped throughout the season.
