Dates set for town’s favourite festival

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

THE Whitsunday Reef Festival is returning this year with an extended program from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 9, and is expected to be the biggest one yet.

The now 10-day festival will introduce a couple of new exciting events including an Airlie Beach main street car show and a beach race day.

Festival secretary Margie Murphy confirmed the new features of the festival and said everyone could still expect the old favourites.

The night will begin in typical Reef Festival fashion with the closure of the main street for a party with a main stage act.

Fashion-forward social event Frocktails is due to make a comeback, as are the mid-week events including sideshow alleys, car- nival rides, helicopter joy rides and night markets.

The Rotary Street Parade, Telstra Family Fun Day, comedy night and ever-popular fireworks displays will all return in an action-packed program.

The festival, now in its 15th year, is themed Heart of the Reef, as it celebrates what it means to live in the Whitsundays, on the edge of the Coral Sea, in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Whitsunday Reef Festival is also looking for businesses such as tours and hotels to become part of the program by hosting their own events.

The committee is calling for sponsors for the popular family event. For more information contact Margie Murphy on secretary @whitsundayreeffestival.com.au or 0418 155 542.
