Be constructive

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

LAST week’s letters to the editor included three letters negatively commenting on Adani and the reef.

Could I suggest these writers read the report published in The Australian newspaper on April 13 titled “Put the acid on reef doomsayers”, written by the co-founder of Greenpeace, Patrick Moore, who states “carbon is the most important food for all life”. Royalties paid by mining companies help our State Government build schools, hospitals and roads.

Carbon capture schemes are being progressed while new coal-fired plants are at least 50 per cent less polluting. Many businesses in our area are suffering as people leave, selling their homes at a loss, as they try to find employment elsewhere.

People who speak and write negatively about companies who attempt to put their time and money into our region could better serve our community by being constructive, by offering practical alternatives that may sit alongside companies that are prepared to put their money where there mouth is.
