Chamber calls for support of events

Whitsunday Times - - BUSINESS -

THE Airlie Beach Chamber of Commerce is asking local businesses to support events that give them a much-needed boost.

Acting president Mark Beale said the chamber was not a tourism-based operation, but its members recognised the importance of major events.

Mr Beale said the chamber did not have the finances to directly fund events but “we can offer support by drawing on the strength of our membership”.

He said this year the cham- ber wanted to support the Reef Festival in August and the Airlie Beach Festival of Music in November and was asking members to donate $100 to each in the hope of raising $10,000 for each of these events.

“The importance of these events cannot be underestimated as they bring thousands of people to the region and in turn benefit the majority of businesses,” he said.

Members and non-members can organise to donate via email to info@airliebeach chamber.com.au.
