Sell-out au­thor com­ing to town

AU­THOR Me­laina Faranda will present free writ­ers’ work­shops at Whit­sun­day li­braries next Fri­day and Satur­day.

Ms Faranda has writ­ten 35 young adult and chil­dren’s books and con­ducts cre­ative writ­ing work­shops and mas­ter­classes through­out Australia.

Her work­shop ‘Mak­ing it Good Enough to Pub­lish’ was a sell-out at the 2009 Bris­bane Writ­ers Fes­ti­val and has been a sell-out re­peat event in three dif­fer­ent states over the past six years.

Next week’s work­shops will be suit­able for both begin­ners and ex­pe­ri­enced writ­ers. The first, ‘Un­leash Your Cre­ativ­ity’, will be held at the Proser­pine Li­brary on Fri­day, May 15.

This fun, en­er­getic work­shop pro­vides a va­ri­ety of pow­er­ful tools, tech­niques and ex­er­cises for writ­ers to un­leash their unique cre­ative abil­ity and over­come blocks and lim­i­ta­tions.

‘Mak­ing It Good Enough to Pub­lish’ will be held at the Can­non­vale Li­brary the next day.

This work­shop fo­cuses on self-edit­ing tech­niques to im­prove writ­ing and re­fine the story.

ben­e­fit from Ms Faranda’s many years of ex­pe­ri­ence work­ing with more than 20 ed­i­tors.

Her tips will en­able writ­ers to take short­cuts, avoid com­mon lit­er­ary pit­falls and save years of hard work in be­com­ing pub­lished.

Bookings are es­sen­tial and par­tic­i­pants are asked to bring pen and pa­per.
