Run­ning fes­ti­val pre­dicts big num­bers

REG­IS­TRA­TIONS are com­ing through thick and fast for next month’s third an­nual Cruise Whit­sun­days Air­lie Beach Run­ning Fes­ti­val.

Lo­cal sup­port has been strong, ac­cord­ing to event or­gan­iser Wendy Downes, while in­ter­state sup­port is gain­ing mo­men­tum.

Past and new com­peti­tors are al­ready on board in all dis­tances, in­clud­ing the Cruise Whit­sun­days Half Marathon, Port of Air­lie 10km and the Bal­ance Po­di­a­try 5km, with num­bers tipped to ex­ceed 500.

The Air­lie Beach Run­ning Fes­ti­val also in­cludes the popular 5km Busi­ness Team Chal­lenge, while this year’s event will also see sev­eral new fea­tures.

The Sea Star Kids 2km Fun Run and Pri­mary School Chal­lenge will make their de­but, with school­child­ren aged five–11 en­cour­aged to take part.

“This brand new event will pro­vide the op­por­tu­nity for kids to get in­volved, get ac­tive and stay healthy,” Ms Downes said.

The in­au­gu­ral per­pet­ual tro­phy will be pre­sented to the largest school team.
