Running festival predicts big numbers
REGISTRATIONS are coming through thick and fast for next month’s third annual Cruise Whitsundays Airlie Beach Running Festival.
Local support has been strong, according to event organiser Wendy Downes, while interstate support is gaining momentum.
Past and new competitors are already on board in all distances, including the Cruise Whitsundays Half Marathon, Port of Airlie 10km and the Balance Podiatry 5km, with numbers tipped to exceed 500.
The Airlie Beach Running Festival also includes the popular 5km Business Team Challenge, while this year’s event will also see several new features.
The Sea Star Kids 2km Fun Run and Primary School Challenge will make their debut, with schoolchildren aged five–11 encouraged to take part.
“This brand new event will provide the opportunity for kids to get involved, get active and stay healthy,” Ms Downes said.
The inaugural perpetual trophy will be presented to the largest school team.
