Proserpine’s little stars shine within playgroup

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY KIDS -

PROSERPINE’S littlies had the chance to feel like stars last Tuesday as part of National Family Day Care Week.

The Whitsunday Shire Family Day Care kids met up for a playgroup, socialising and having fun together.

“All the Family Day Care’s across Australia hold a playgroup that week,” Whitsunday Shire Family Day Care coordinator Tracy Healey said.

“The theme is Every Child is a Star, so we’re focussing on the children.”

To really make the kids feel special each made their own souvenir to take home.

“We had photos of the children in a star with their handprint in them and they got to take that home with them,” Ms Healey said.

The kids unleashed their creative side in many other ways as well, and had a break for lunch of course.

“We had everything from star stickers, star art and craft, star sandwiches, star everything,” Ms Healey said.

But this was about more than just letting the kids run wild, with the large group interaction forming part of their education.

“What the children get out of it is all sorts of developmental skills,” Ms Healey said.

“Especially social and emotional skills; getting together in large groups, being part of the community, engaging in physical activities and craft.”

This week’s event also marked 25 years of operation for Family Day Care Australia, the national body governing the local branch.
