Narrow win for Jewell, Williams and Fernbach
THE team of Kevin Jewell, Rick Williams and Nik Fernbach defeated Peter Lawton, George Simmonds and Derek Brown in a tense game of Agrade three-bowl triples.
Jewell, Williams and Fernbach won 24-22 in a game of two vastly different halves at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club this week.
In other men’s A-grade results, Steve Tattam bettered Wally Gray 26-11 while Bruce Purdie retired against Peter Lawton after 10 ends due to injury.
Bob McMahon also defeated Derek Brown 26-9.
In Tuesday’s ladies play Lane Telford, Di Dobbins and Elaine Kippen knocked over Jill Spencer, Margaret Heeney and Elaine Kippen 24-18 while Margo Stanley, Lada Purdie and Barbara Hill took the points over Jo Howes, Noela Whitehead and Connie Wilkinson 17-15.
Wednesday’s men’s jackpot play resulted in a victory for David Dudman and Barry Zillman, who teamed-up to down Derek Brown and Peter Lawton 24-20.
Herb Secomb, Nik Fernbach and Steve Wilton also defeated Dom Sposato, John Slade and George Simmonds 23-8. Sunday social play attracted a small crowd of players, with Jo Howes, Mae Secomb and Ron Reimers combining to get the better of Kevin Jewell, Sandra Argo and Connie Wilkinson 28-10.
Nik Fernbach and Col Howes were also victorious, taking down George Simmonds and James Argo 30-12 while Betty Nicol and David Dudman conquered Margo Stanley and Maureen Barnard 20-16.
This weekend the men’s division three pennants will be played at Airlie Beach.
