Lo­cal bowlers take on the best in Queens­land

PROSER­PINE BOWLS

A MACKAY dis­trict team con­sist­ing of six Air­lie Beach and Proser­pine bowlers fin­ished sev­enth over­all at the State Dis­trict Cham­pi­onships in Noosa.

Shane Spann, Gavin Milne and Mick Kin­n­ear joined forces with Air­lie Beach’s An­drew Bell, Ar­mando Is­gro and Nathan Har­riott for last week’s event, fin­ish­ing sev­enth out of 22 teams.

Mean­while, closer to home, 16 teams took part in the an­nual Metropole May Day Mixed Fours Car­ni­val at the Proser­pine Bowls Club.

Ross Reville, Dot Hin­sche, Ben Cutrone and Barry Saroglia won the day with three wins (plus 38), ahead of Nathan Dodds, Todd Leys, Scott Hamil­ton and Jonathan Bye (three wins plus 34) and Philip Brown, John Hen­der­son, Heather Brown and Wayne Han­d­ley (three wins plus 32).

On Sun­day morn­ing, the fi­nal of the Two Bowl Triples was played where Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton and Wayne Han­d­ley even­tu­ally over­came Martin Corr, Ben Cutrone (sub) and Scott Kin­n­ear 26-20 in a tense match.

Seven play­ers also en­joyed Mother’s Day bowls.

John Lah­ney, Fran Porter and Philip Brown de­feated Trudy Hanne, Blachne Dal­ton, Flo O’Han­lon and Heather Brown 18-17 in a so­cial game.

In other news, the teams for this Satur­day’s pen­nants game have been se­lected.

Di­vi­sion one will play South Sub­ur­ban, with Scott Kin­n­ear, Ben Cutrone, Michael Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia; Shane Kin­n­ear, Scott Hamil­ton, Wayne Han­d­ley and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear; Nathan Dodds, Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann to make-up the teams.

Di­vi­sion five teams in­clude Dan Robin­son, Ted Cullen, Shane May and Vince Olsen; John Hen­der­son, Martin Corr, Jim Quod and Ross Reville; Sandy Daf­fara, Steve Lawrie, Kevin Thoro­good and Barry Zill­man.

LADIES

On Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon, Lois Read de­feated Heather Brown 25-23 in Club Cham­pi­onships Sin­gles while Jo Peasley/Noelie Dibben (sub) and Bar­bara Dam­mash got the bet­ter of Lillian Har­ris and Ma­ree Daf­fara 18-17 in a Club Cham­pi­onship Pairs game.

Two so­cial games were also played, with Trudy Hanne, Heather Pat­ullo and Dot Hin­schen tak­ing the points over Cathy Holmes, Flo O’Han­lon and Joy Jef­fries 21-15; Fran Porter, Noelie Dibben/Heather Brown and Joan McGrath out­sing Mary Hedge­long, John Lah­ney and Gail Camm 34-15.

To­day two Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles games will be played, with Norma Daniels and Lillian Har­ris to do battle while Ma­ree Daf­fara and Joan McGrath face off.
