Mackay Mag­pies fly higher to beat Sea Ea­gles

AUSSIE RULES:

THE Whit­sun­day Sea Ea­gles re­main win-less in the Mackay AFL Al­lied Pick­fords Cup af­ter go­ing down to Mag­pies on Satur­day.

Whit­sun­day went down 16.8.104 to 5.8.38 at Mag­pies Sports Park, slip­ping to a fourth de­feat of the year.

The first quar­ter sealed the Sea Ea­gles’ fate as the Mag­pies bolted away for a 33-1 quar­ter-time lead.

Whit­sun­day man­aged to kick three ma­jors in the sec­ond term but North­ern Beaches main­tained con­trol of the game to ex­tend their ad­van­tage 40-points.

Mag­pies added seven goals to two in the sec­ond half, record­ing just their sec­ond win of the sea­son in the process.

Nathan Al­ford kicked two goals while coach Matt Laskey, Daniel Moss and Eli Gun­ders also hit the score­board.

Brent Gale, Chris Bray, Luke McCaul and Trent Bradley were among the best play­ers.

This week­end the Sea Ea­gles re­turn to the Whit­sun­day Sportspark where they will host Creek Tigers.

Bak­ers Creek has just one win from its four out­ings this sea­son, open­ing the door for a Whit­sun­day out­fit that will be in the com­fort of their own backyard.

Whit­sun­day are sev­enth on the Mackay AFL Al­lied Pick­fords Cup lad­der while the Tigers sit in sixth po­si­tion.

The game kicks off at 2.45pm on Satur­day.

In other news, the Sea Ea­gles’ ju­nior teams will also be in ac­tion this week­end.

The un­der-13s host Sa­rina at the Whit­sun­day Sportspark from 9.40am, while the 15s will fol­low with a stoush against Hawks at 11.10am.

Whit­sun­day’s un­der-17s play the cur­tain-raiser for the main game, kick­ing-off their match with Hawks at 1pm.

In other news, young Sea Ea­gle Maty Jenk­ins has just com­pleted the un­der-16 State Cham­pi­onships with North Queens­land in Bris­bane.
