Bad break for WMA’s Ben

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

THE only drawback in what was otherwise a successful night was a horrific injury suffered by WMA’s Ben Kelleher.

The K1 fighter sustained a badly broken leg in the first round of his duel with Braid Jackson while attempting a regulation kick.

The graphic accident stunned the crowd as the show was put on hold for several minutes while Kelleher was attended to.

On Sunday he was taken to Mackay, where he was operated on, with two steel rods inserted to support the leg. Kelleher returned to the Whitsundays on Monday morning to start his long road back to recovery.

Despite the severity of the injury, WMA coach Anton Zafir tipped Kelleher to eventually return to the fighting arena.
