AIRLIE Fight Night IV promised a night to remember and delivered in style through 12 action-packed duels.

More than 1000 people took to the Whitsunday Sportspark on Saturday night to see fighters from Townsville, Mackay, Mount Isa, Brisbane and the Whitsundays step into the ring.

Mackay’s Keohu Smith claimed the co-main event with a Technical Knockout victory over Mount Isa’s Mitch Godfrey.

Godfrey dominated the first two rounds however Keohu’s persistent leg attacks eventually paid off, felling Godfrey before pouncing in the third round.

Townsville’s Jonathon Burgoyne also won his match-up, downing Mackay MMA member Tahiwi Sellars in their boxing bout.

Rhino MMA’s Hayden Buckman took the points in his kick-boxing fight against WMA’s Blake Berry while fellow local Matt Thurtell also went down, succumbing to Mackay’s Ben Edmonstone.

The only female fight of the night saw Mackay’s Amanda Dick win over local hope Lauren Candy in what was a highly entertaining duel.

Both fighters came out firing, with plenty of punches thrown in an offensive-minded battle.

Lauren’s Fight Night Experience team-mate Ben Parry took on Zac Williams but it was the latter who won on unanimous points.

Although he didn’t get the result he was after, Parry, who lost 38kg during the challenge, credited the Fight Night Experience for “changing his life” and vowed to continue training in the hope of furthering his boxing ambition. The first fight of the night went to Brett Dwyer, who defeated his fellow WMA member Steve Thurtell on knockout.
