Double road fatality at Mount Coolon
THE sole survivor of a car crash that killed two women at Mount Coolon is recovering in hospital.
The 67-year-old Home Hill man, who was a passenger, was airlifted to Townsville General Hospital after receiving serious injuries in the fatal crash.
A 44-year-old woman and a 62-year-old woman, both also from Home Hill, died at the scene.
The car was discovered by a passing motorist on the Bowen Developmental Rd, also known locally as the Mount Coolon Rd, about 11pm on Friday.
Mackay District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Tony McDowall said the vehicle had rolled a number of times.
The Forensic Crash Unit was still investigating how it occurred but early investigations indicated the driver lost control on the gravel, Snr Sgt McDowall said.
