Poor start for men’s pennant teams
Men’s pennants matches are under way for the season.
The division-one team is pre-playing many of the games scheduled for June so players can participate in the Australian Open on the Gold Coast.
On Saturday, Proserpine played two games against Souths Suburban.
In the round-two game, Shane Spann’s team was defeated by Ray Kurtz’s outfit 36–6, while Grahame Kinnear’s team went down 22–15.
Barry Saroglia’s team, however, was victorious, winning the contest 24–22.
Overall, Souths Suburban defeated Proserpine 80–45, giving Souths four match points to Proserpine’s one.
In the round-seven game, Shane Spann’s team again went down, this time 26–21.
Grahame Kinnear’s outfit went down 19–18 in a thrilling match, while Barry Saroglia’s team succumbed to Alan Howard 24–15.
The overall score was Souths Suburban 69 to Proserpine 54, giving Suburban five match points to Proserpine’s zero.
Elsewhere, in division five at the RSL, Vince Olsen’s team was defeated 19–16 and Barry Zillmann’s troops lost 29–14.
Ross Reville’s team won 27–13 for an overall score of 61–57 in favour of RSL, gifting them four match points to Proserpine’s one.
This weekend division 1 plays Northern Beaches away on Saturday while division 5 takes on Mackay in Mackay.
Division 5 will play hosts to North Mackay on Saturday from 11am and then go to Mackay on Sunday to play South Suburban. There were three competition games on Wednesday. In the first, Lillian Harris defeated Norma Daniels 25–9.
In other results, Joan McGrath won over Maree Daffara 25–14 and Wendy Pomeroy and Gail Camm prevailed over Joyce Patullo and Joy Jeffries 25–9.
Two games of social bowls were also played, with Arthur Williams, John Lahney and Heather Patullo teaming-up to take down Trudy Hanne, June Blair and Flo O’Hanlon 31–19.
