Poor start for men’s pen­nant teams

Men’s pen­nants matches are un­der way for the sea­son.

The di­vi­sion-one team is pre-play­ing many of the games sched­uled for June so play­ers can par­tic­i­pate in the Aus­tralian Open on the Gold Coast.

On Satur­day, Proser­pine played two games against Souths Sub­ur­ban.

In the round-two game, Shane Spann’s team was de­feated by Ray Kurtz’s out­fit 36–6, while Gra­hame Kin­n­ear’s team went down 22–15.

Barry Saroglia’s team, how­ever, was vic­to­ri­ous, win­ning the con­test 24–22.

Over­all, Souths Sub­ur­ban de­feated Proser­pine 80–45, giv­ing Souths four match points to Proser­pine’s one.

In the round-seven game, Shane Spann’s team again went down, this time 26–21.

Gra­hame Kin­n­ear’s out­fit went down 19–18 in a thrilling match, while Barry Saroglia’s team suc­cumbed to Alan Howard 24–15.

The over­all score was Souths Sub­ur­ban 69 to Proser­pine 54, giv­ing Sub­ur­ban five match points to Proser­pine’s zero.

Else­where, in di­vi­sion five at the RSL, Vince Olsen’s team was de­feated 19–16 and Barry Zill­mann’s troops lost 29–14.

Ross Reville’s team won 27–13 for an over­all score of 61–57 in favour of RSL, gift­ing them four match points to Proser­pine’s one.

This week­end di­vi­sion 1 plays North­ern Beaches away on Satur­day while di­vi­sion 5 takes on Mackay in Mackay.

Di­vi­sion 5 will play hosts to North Mackay on Satur­day from 11am and then go to Mackay on Sun­day to play South Sub­ur­ban. There were three com­pe­ti­tion games on Wed­nes­day. In the first, Lillian Har­ris de­feated Norma Daniels 25–9.

In other re­sults, Joan McGrath won over Ma­ree Daf­fara 25–14 and Wendy Pomeroy and Gail Camm pre­vailed over Joyce Pat­ullo and Joy Jef­fries 25–9.

Two games of so­cial bowls were also played, with Arthur Wil­liams, John Lah­ney and Heather Pat­ullo team­ing-up to take down Trudy Hanne, June Blair and Flo O’Han­lon 31–19.
