Strong re­turns for lo­cal rid­ers

THE Whit­sun­day Eques­trian Group put its best foot for­ward in Townsville re­cently, tak­ing on the North Queens­land Eques­trian Group Clas­sic.

Rid­ers from as far north as Cairns and as far south as Rock­hamp­ton par­tic­i­pated in the two-day com­pe­ti­tion at the Black River Pony Club Grounds ear­lier this month.

WEG pres­i­dent Tracey Davies said the clas­sic, which is NQEG’s big­gest an­nual event, reaped some out­stand­ing re­sults for the re­gion’s rid­ers.

In the dres­sage, Ali Kronk fin­ished third in the of­fi­cial pre­lim and third in the of­fi­cial novice, while Shan­non Wil­cox man­aged a sec­ond (of­fi­cial pre­lim) and sev­enth (of­fi­cial novice).

Ken­dell Davies won a host of awards, in­clud­ing two sec­ond plac­ings (AM7 80cm and the grand prix 80cm) and a first in the AM2 80cm cat­e­gory. Sa­man­tha Gilchrist won three ti­tles, in­clud­ing AM7 60cm, AM7 100cm and the AM2 100cm.

She also claimed sec­ond in the AM2 60cm and fourth in the grand prix 100cm. Georgina Lee also en­joyed a solid car­ni­val, fin­ish­ing with two third plac­ings (AM7 100cm and the grand prix 100cm) and a fourth (AM2 100cm). Other rid­ers to im­press were Abigail Lee, Char­lie Lee and Shan­non Will­cox.

WEG will host a supreme two-day an­nual event fea­tur­ing all round horse/rider com­bi­na­tion this week­end at the Can­non­va­l­ley Pony Club Grounds.
