Strong returns for local riders
THE Whitsunday Equestrian Group put its best foot forward in Townsville recently, taking on the North Queensland Equestrian Group Classic.
Riders from as far north as Cairns and as far south as Rockhampton participated in the two-day competition at the Black River Pony Club Grounds earlier this month.
WEG president Tracey Davies said the classic, which is NQEG’s biggest annual event, reaped some outstanding results for the region’s riders.
In the dressage, Ali Kronk finished third in the official prelim and third in the official novice, while Shannon Wilcox managed a second (official prelim) and seventh (official novice).
Kendell Davies won a host of awards, including two second placings (AM7 80cm and the grand prix 80cm) and a first in the AM2 80cm category. Samantha Gilchrist won three titles, including AM7 60cm, AM7 100cm and the AM2 100cm.
She also claimed second in the AM2 60cm and fourth in the grand prix 100cm. Georgina Lee also enjoyed a solid carnival, finishing with two third placings (AM7 100cm and the grand prix 100cm) and a fourth (AM2 100cm). Other riders to impress were Abigail Lee, Charlie Lee and Shannon Willcox.
WEG will host a supreme two-day annual event featuring all round horse/rider combination this weekend at the Cannonvalley Pony Club Grounds.
