Four wins in a row for unstoppable Lee

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

Proserpine cowboy Owen Lee is riding an unstoppable wave of form at the moment.

The bareback horse rider has won his last four rodeos and will be aiming for his fifth in as many starts on Saturday at Nebo.

Lee’s winning streak started in Clermont five weeks ago before backing up that victory with two more brilliant rides in the Alstonville event held over two heats.

“It’s the last pro rodeo of last year’s pro season so it was great to win that,” he said.

The next stop was Mt Morgan three weeks ago, making it a hat-trick of wins for the star rider.

“I drew Ironback who is the six time Central Queensland Bucking Horse of the Year,” Lee explained.

“I last rode him in 2011 and he back-doored me and knocked me out.

“It was cool to get on him again but no matter how good you ride him it’s still tough.”

Despite the pedigree of the horse, Lee recorded 81-points in what was a stellar ride.

It came at a cost though, as an old bicep injury flared up during the ride.

That meant a week off for Lee but it didn’t stop his brilliant run of form, returning to the rodeo circuit at the weekend for the Biloela Show.

“It’s one of my favourites... it’s a good ol’ fashion rodeo,” he said.

“I got a good draw there but that doesn’t guarantee you get in the money.”

Lee scored 78 to mark four straight bareback titles in as many attempts.

This weekend he will travel to Nebo, where he hopes to make it five wins.

Lee is hoping for some local support and encourages the community to travel down for the show, which starts at 6pm.

Tickets cost $15 per person or $30 for a family (two adults and two kids).
