Sea Eagles celebrate first win of the year

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

After four winless rounds the Whitsunday Sea Eagles have finally broken through for their first victory in 2015.

Whitsunday thrashed an underwhelming Bakers Creek outfit on Saturday at the Whitsunday Sportspark, triumphing 15.8.98 to 2.10.22.

It was unquestionably the side’s most complete performance of the year, combining well as a team while also restricting the Tigers with a concerted defensive effort.

The Sea Eagles got the ball rolling in the first quarter kicking with a howling wind, opening up a 33-6 lead at the first break.

It was always going to be a game played at one end of the ground, but Whitsunday restricted Bakers Creek to just player Eli Gunders starred with four majors while Hank Verwoerdt and Nathan Alford each kicked two.

Midfielder Jimmy Bourke was named best on ground, controlling play with class while Robert Reents, Chris Bray and Trent Bradley all contributed.

This weekend the Sea Eagles will host Moranbah Bulldogs at the Whitsunday Sportspark.

The Sea Eagles will be confident on the back of their first win of the year while the travel factor will only improve their chances against the Bulldogs – who face the biggest road-trip in the game.

Like Whitsunday, Moranbah has just one win so far this season. The game will kick-off at 2.45pm.
