Geyer tips NSW to win Origin again
NRL media personality Mark Geyer has tipped NSW to defend their State of Origin title in this year’s series.
Geyer, speaking to the Whitsunday Times ahead of this weekend’s Ball or Nothing Sportsman’s Dinner at the Reef Gateway Hotel, said the Blues could win their second series in as many years if they got selection right.
“They’ve got a lot of young players that have shown they want to play Origin,” he said.
“They got a taste for it last year and it will give them the hunger to do it again. Queensland aren’t getting any younger, especially after the performance in the Test match (against New Zealand).”
Geyer tipped a 2-1 result in favour of NSW despite the uncertainty over the make-up of the squad.
“I think (Mitchell) Pearce looks most likely and has improved since he last played (Origin),” he said.
“Josh Reynolds hasn’t done himself any favours of late.”
Geyer also picked Matt Moylan to step up in the absence of Jarryd Hayne.
“We need a fullback there who’s a good ball player, like Matty Moylan,” Geyer said.
“You’ve got to score points to beat Queensland. They’re going to score at least 16-18 so we’ve got to pick a team to score 20.”
