Boilermaker’s Centrelink rage is caught on camera

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

NOT receiving money he thought he was due was said to be the reason why Edward Norman Johnson kicked and damaged a glass door at Centrelink on February 16.

The 24-year-old local went to the Cannonvale Centrelink branch about noon that day to talk to staff about a government benefit.

In court on Monday, police prosecutor Elizabeth Smith said Johnson became angry when told he wouldn’t receive the benefit and took it out on the door.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage and police caught up with him at a later date.

On Monday, the boilermaker told the court he planned to seek counselling for “my obvious problem”, promising however that this behaviour was out of character.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said in this instance “the poor old taxpayer” would be footing the bill for the damaged door.

Johnson was fined $880 but no conviction was recorded for the offence.
