Trio on target after sealing place in triples final
AIRLIE BOWLS: Kevin Jewell, Rick Williams and Nik Fernbach have won through to the men’s triples final after overcoming a stern challenge in their semi-final at the weekend.
The trio defeated Steve Tattam, Dom Sposato and Col Howes 22-13 in a hard-fought affair at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club on Sunday.
Jill Spencer, Margaret Heeney and Henny Tattam won their ladies’ triples game against Margo Stanley, Betty Nicol and Elaine Hadlow 2018.
In other results from the weekend, Wally Gray, Connie Wilkinson and Jenny Ryder teamed up to beat Gus Ferliano, Ron Reimers and Terry Sanders 17-12 in a social game while Souths Suburban got the better of Airlie Beach in the division 3 pennants clash on Saturday.
In the A-grade singles competition, Rick Williams notched two wins on Saturday, taking care of Steve Roome 2620 before hitting the rink again to dismantle Daryl Tuttle 25-5.
James Argo won his Agrade singles bout earlier in the week, ousting Nik Fernbach 25-22.
In the men’s A-grade pairs semi-final played Friday Andy Bell and Bob McMahon proved no match for Nathan Harriott and Man Isgro who won 28-11.
In the ladies’ matches played Tuesday, Elaine Hadlow, Regina Aqualina and Jill Spencer enjoyed a good win, downing Margo Stanley, Jo Howes and Di Dobbins 26-19.
Doreen Peadon, Connie Wilkinson and Henny Tattam also finished impressive winners with a 19-9 triumph over Lane Telford, Noela Whitehead and Elaine Kippen.
Dom Sposato and Steve Tattam were victorious in Wednesday men’s jackpot play, beating Herb Secomb and Nik Fernbach 27-21.
Peter Lawton, Steve Wilton and Nick Daniel also notched a win in the jackpot play, downing Paul Osborne, Acka Paul and Nick Daniel 20-12 while Barry Zillman and John Sladek defeated Derek Brown and Jim Cairns 26-19.
