Proser­pine bowler Heather Brown to con­test Mas­ter Sin­gles’ fi­nal

Lo­cal bowler Heather Brown will con­test the fi­nal of the Masters Sin­gles this week af­ter over­com­ing the reign­ing Queens­land Bowler of the Year.

Heather will put ev­ery­thing on the line on Fri­day at Sa­rina.

On Thurs­day Ma­ree Daf­fara joined Heather at Sa­rina to par­tic­i­pate in the pre­lim­i­nary rounds of the event, which re- quires par­tic­i­pants to win their Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles’ ti­tle.

Ma­ree was de­feated by North Mackay’s Glo­ria Smith in a close game but Heather flew the flag for Proser­pine, de­feat­ing Margo Stan­ley (Air­lie Beach), Mar­garet Edger­ton (City) and Robyn Dev­ereaux (North­ern Beaches).

The semi-fi­nal win over Robyn, the Queens­land Bowler of the Year, was par­tic­u­larly sig­nif­i­cant as Heather tri­umphed in an­other close en­counter, 25-24.

In other news, the club’s di­vi­sion 1 team played their round eight fix­ture against North­ern Beaches last week. Shane Spann’s team won 2017, Barry Saroglia’s group went down 25-21 and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear’s out­fit lost 2118. Over­all the score read Pro- ser­pine 59 to North­ern Beaches 63.

On Satur­day the round three game against North­ern Beaches was held, and again the home-team won, this time 70-62.

Proser­pine faired bet­ter in the di­vi­sion 5 con­test with North Mackay at home, post­ing a 58-49 win while on Sun­day di­vi­sion 1 slipped to Mackay 66-56. Di­vi­sion 5 played Souths Sub­ur­ban on Sun­day and suf­fered an 82-51 loss.


On Wed­nes­day the semi-fi­nal of the Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles was played where Lois Read de­feated Lillian Har­ris 25-12.

In so­cial play, Vicki Spann, John Lah­ney, Cathy Holmes and Heather Brown got the bet­ter of Mary Hedge­long, Fran Porter, Flo O’Han­lon and Joy Jef­fries 33-16.

To­day the se­lected pen­nants teams will have a prac­tice in prepa­ra­tion for this year’s sea­son.

The teams are Heather Pat­ullo, Gail Camm, Joan McGrath and Heather Brown; Lois Read, Dot Hin­schen, June Blair and Ma­ree Daf­fara.

The first round of pen­nants will be played on Thurs­day, June 4 at Sub­ur­ban.
