Proserpine bowler Heather Brown to contest Master Singles’ final
Local bowler Heather Brown will contest the final of the Masters Singles this week after overcoming the reigning Queensland Bowler of the Year.
Heather will put everything on the line on Friday at Sarina.
On Thursday Maree Daffara joined Heather at Sarina to participate in the preliminary rounds of the event, which re- quires participants to win their Club Championship Singles’ title.
Maree was defeated by North Mackay’s Gloria Smith in a close game but Heather flew the flag for Proserpine, defeating Margo Stanley (Airlie Beach), Margaret Edgerton (City) and Robyn Devereaux (Northern Beaches).
The semi-final win over Robyn, the Queensland Bowler of the Year, was particularly significant as Heather triumphed in another close encounter, 25-24.
In other news, the club’s division 1 team played their round eight fixture against Northern Beaches last week. Shane Spann’s team won 2017, Barry Saroglia’s group went down 25-21 and Grahame Kinnear’s outfit lost 2118. Overall the score read Pro- serpine 59 to Northern Beaches 63.
On Saturday the round three game against Northern Beaches was held, and again the home-team won, this time 70-62.
Proserpine faired better in the division 5 contest with North Mackay at home, posting a 58-49 win while on Sunday division 1 slipped to Mackay 66-56. Division 5 played Souths Suburban on Sunday and suffered an 82-51 loss.
On Wednesday the semi-final of the Club Championship Singles was played where Lois Read defeated Lillian Harris 25-12.
In social play, Vicki Spann, John Lahney, Cathy Holmes and Heather Brown got the better of Mary Hedgelong, Fran Porter, Flo O’Hanlon and Joy Jeffries 33-16.
Today the selected pennants teams will have a practice in preparation for this year’s season.
The teams are Heather Patullo, Gail Camm, Joan McGrath and Heather Brown; Lois Read, Dot Hinschen, June Blair and Maree Daffara.
The first round of pennants will be played on Thursday, June 4 at Suburban.
