Bronze for Out­rig­ger club in Townsville

Out­rig­ger Whit­sun­day has re­turned from Townsville with a third for their over­all per­for­mance as well as a host of in­di­vid­ual achieve­ments.

The club con­tested the Mag­netic Is­land Re­gatta at the start of the month, the third in a six-race grand prix.

Over­all Whit­sun­day fin­ished third of 11 clubs, but the stars of the show were Court­ney Joyce and Ash­leigh Suchanek, who recorded gold medals in the OC2 open women short course marathon.

It was a bril­liant achieve­ment for the teenagers as this was the first time the girls had com­peted in the open di­vi­sion.

The two girls backed up their stunning open di­vi­sion de­buts at the ju­nior re­gatta the fol­low­ing day, re­turn­ing a host of medals.

Other no­table per­for­mances from the week­end went to Ash­ton Joyce and Var­nia Earnst, who won sil­ver in the un­der-14 OC2 short course marathon, and Brook Draper for her sec­ond in the un­der-16 OC1 short course marathon.

Brook also teamed-up with Yemi Earnst for sil­ver in the un­der-19 OC2 short course event.

“Out­rig­ger Whit­sun­day is cer­tainly rep­re­sent­ing our re­gion well at th­ese re­gat­tas with more and more bling com­ing home each time,” club spokesper­son Ni­cholas Bellinger said.
