MUD, GUTS AND PURE GRIT
IT’S GOING to be a muddy, funfilled Saturday for hundreds of Whitsunday locals, as they take to the region’s first obstacle course event – Obstacles Gone Mad! Whitsundays in Kelsey Creek.
For Cannonvale’s Tanya Benson, the attraction is that Obstacles Gone Mad! is an experience not normally on offer in the Whitsundays.
“Its about getting outside of the box, outside of your comfort zone and having a laugh and a giggle at each other,” Ms Benson said.
Ms Benson, along with friends Tonya Dunne, Jaclyn Watson and Amy Keyte, are just four of more than 600 people who will descend on the course at the weekend.
The experience, and whatever challenges it presents as individuals or as a team, is what has them so excited.
“I think if you see someone struggling I reckon you’d hold your hand out and give them a bit of a hand,” Ms Benson said.
“We’ll see what we say at the end (of the course),” Ms Dunne added dryly.
With the courses almost completed, final preparations are under way for the event, which founder and organiser Shane Elisara said “was shaping up really well”.
Cargo nets, rope climbs, monkey bars, walls, apexes and numerous other obstacles across a combined 17.5km of track will be sure to challenge even the fittest of people.
“We’re really looking forward to it and we’re looking forward to putting on an amazing show for everyone on Saturday,” Mr Elisara said.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited executive director Jeff Aquilina said he and his team were happy to support and grow events like Obstacles Gone Mad! Whitsundays.
Online registrations for the event close on Thursday evening, but those who are still thinking about attending will be able to turn up and take part on the day.
“If you haven’t got a ticket, just hop onto one of the buses and you’ll be able to register at the gate,” Mr Elisara said.
A bus timetable and information about pick-up and drop-off points is available at www.terraintraining.com.au.
