Drug traffickers brought to court
FOURTEEN of the 57 people charged in 48 hours were brought before Proserpine Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist on Friday, following a police operation targeting drug trafficking in Mackay and the Whitsundays.
Gavin John Barr, 42, and To- ni Rachel Hall, 44, made bail applications, which were rejected.
Justin Paul Carra, 39, was granted bail with no conditions. Luke David Firth, 33, Edwin John Paku, 31, and Bevin William Jakes, 36, are out on bail subject to reporting and residential conditions. Jakes also had to surrender his passport and cannot go within 500m of an international departing point.
There were no bail applications for Michael John Beel, 31, Leon Gary Cremor, 36, Robert Benjamin Frith, 36, Brendan Ryan Johnsen, 23, Tupou Tavakesina Lino, 31, Jessica Judith Murphy, 27, Zenon Rara, 29, and Steven Andrew Richards, 40, who were all remanded in custody.
All matters before Mr Stjernqvist were adjourned to July 20.
