Drug traf­fick­ers brought to court

FOUR­TEEN of the 57 peo­ple charged in 48 hours were brought be­fore Proser­pine Mag­is­trate Haydn St­jern­qvist on Fri­day, fol­low­ing a po­lice op­er­a­tion tar­get­ing drug traf­fick­ing in Mackay and the Whit­sun­days.

Gavin John Barr, 42, and To- ni Rachel Hall, 44, made bail ap­pli­ca­tions, which were re­jected.

Justin Paul Carra, 39, was granted bail with no con­di­tions. Luke David Firth, 33, Ed­win John Paku, 31, and Bevin Wil­liam Jakes, 36, are out on bail sub­ject to re­port­ing and res­i­den­tial con­di­tions. Jakes also had to sur­ren­der his pass­port and can­not go within 500m of an in­ter­na­tional de­part­ing point.

There were no bail ap­pli­ca­tions for Michael John Beel, 31, Leon Gary Cre­mor, 36, Robert Benjamin Frith, 36, Bren­dan Ryan Johnsen, 23, Tupou Tavakesina Lino, 31, Jes­sica Ju­dith Mur­phy, 27, Zenon Rara, 29, and Steven An­drew Richards, 40, who were all re­manded in cus­tody.

All mat­ters be­fore Mr St­jern­qvist were ad­journed to July 20.
