We love a day at the footy

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

ON SATURDAY, myself, and a regular, but small bunch of diehard supporters of the Whitsunday Sea Eagles AFL team, rolled up to the Sportspark, to cheer on our team, as we always do when they play at home.

We were greeted with a marquee and a sign “Eagles Super Special Members”.

Their captain, Matt Laskey welcomed us and said, as we support the club, the club wanted to show its support for us.

They treated us to an Esky with refreshments, and platters of nibbles. What a wonderful gesture. As usual, the Eagles played their hearts out, unfortunately, without success.

As supporters we realise there will be good, and not so good weeks, but that doesn’t dampen our resolve, or lessen our enthusiasm for “our” team.

Each week, in the Whitsunday Times there is a match report and information as to where their next match will be played.

I’m calling on all lovers of Aussie Rules in Airlie and surrounds, to come and support your team at home games.

I know there are masses of former Southerners’ out there.

Get out for the day, bring the grandkids, make an arvo of it, you’ll have a ball.

The team and their wonderful bunch of volunteers would welcome your support.

Perhaps you could even put your hand up to help out in some capacity.

After all, there’s nothing like a day at the footy. Bob Fenney Cannonvale
