$1000 fine after ‘all out fist fight’
A 21-YEAR-OLD man involved in an “all out fist fight” in Airlie Beach has been fined $1000 and banned from licensed premises in the Safe Night Precinct from 8pm-6am for one year.
Kodie Grant Sadler was at Airlie’s Mama Africa nightclub at 12.17am on May 5 when he saw his friend “king hit” another man and joined in the fight sparking a large brawl across the dance floor the Proserpine Magistrate’s Court was told.
As he was being evicted, Sadler punched another random man walking up the stairs into the club, police prosecutor Elizabeth Smith said.
Duty lawyer Cleo Rewald said she was in the court’s hands in terms of penalty, having few cases to compare this with from her hometown of Bowen.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist agreed Bowen didn’t seem to have the same “fairy dust” as Airlie Beach when the sun went down.
“It’s just thuggery,” he told Sadler, adding this was a serious case of unprovoked and gratuitous violence.
