Di­vi­sion one wins in Sa­rina

Proser­pine’s di­vi­sion one pen­nants team won its round-five game against Sa­rina on Satur­day, re­turn­ing home with a 72-45 victory.

Shane Spann’s team won its game 24-11, Gra­hame Kin­n­ear’s unit tri­umphed 26-15 and Barry Saroglia’s group pre­vailed 22-19 to earn Proser­pine a well-de­served ‘W’.

The di­vi­sion five team played Seaforth at home, fall­ing 42-5 in a one-sided con­test.

Sun­day af­ter­noon so­cial play saw Jeanette Cal­way, Flo O’Han­lon, Joy Jef­fries and Heather Brown de­feat Fran Porter, Sandy Daf­fara and Ma­ree Daf­fara 26–13, while Lois Read, Dot Hin­schen and Kevin Thoro­good ac­counted for Bar­bara Dam­mash, Joan McGrath and Philip Brown 22-21.

The B sin­gles will be played this week­end from 9.30am at the Proser­pine Bowls Club. John Hen­der­son will start the day against Ted Cullen, while Steve Lawrie and Shane May will also hit the rink early on.

LADIES

Last Wed­nes­day the club had pen­nants prac­tice for this year’s team. Heather Pat­ullo, Wendy Pomeroy, Joan McGrath and Heather Brown de­feated Lois Read, Dot Hin­schen, June Blair and Ma­ree Daf­fara 23-11.

In so­cial bowls on the day, Cathy Holmes, Dar­rell Pat­ullo, Joyce Pat­ullo and Joy Jef­fries knocked over Fran Porter, Lill Burke, Flo O’Han­lon and Lillian Har­ris 22-10.

Pen­nants play will com­mence on Thurs­day at Sub­ur­ban and a bus will leave the club at 10am.

In other news, Heather Brown con­tested the fi­nal of the Mas­ter Sin­gles at Sa­rina, fall­ing to her op­po­nent 25-19 in a mam­moth game.
