RUGBY UNION: The methodical Whitsunday Raiders just continue to get the job done, posting another convincing win in the Mackay and District Rugby Union competition.

The Raiders hosted Bowen at the Whitsunday Sportspark on Sunday, posting a 36-8 win to secure a bonus point.

Whitsunday led 14-5 at halftime, but broke away in the second 40, scoring four tries to nil.

Raiders’ stand-in coach Ron Croker, acting in place of the absent Rama Chand, was impressed with the performance – the team’s sixth straight win after starting the season with two losses.

“It has been a good season since the coach (Chand) arrived. Everything’s going well and everyone’s working nicely together,” he said.

“As a team, everyone was switched on and organised. Everyone did their job and stayed in position.

“A few of the boys stepped up, breaking the lines and putting pressure on Bowen.”

It was a combined effort that brought down Bowen but Croker saved praise for three Raiders, who were recognised post-match.

“Brook (Cadwallader) went really well and made a lot of yards with ball in hand, while the new lad, Filipo (Vezzosi), is going really well at 10,” Croker explained.

“Our other 10 got injured, so he has slotted in there and is going well... The boys play off him well.

“Daniel Hayes is one of our young lads, but he is really improving this season.”

The Raiders shared tries between Cadwallader, Bill Crossley, Madison French, Joseph Sikei, Alex Cousin and Dom Croker. Whitsunday will hit the road this weekend to take on Slade Point in Mackay on Saturday. The Raiders’ next home game is against Brothers on June 13.
