Cowboy Owen Lee enjoys almost perfect month
RODEO: He did not get the perfect month he was after but Owen Lee has still managed to win six of the last seven rodeos he has competed at.
The bareback horse rider recorded the only blight of his May on Friday night, finishing third at the Bundaberg Show.
Although that ruined his perfect month, Lee backed up on Saturday night to win an event in Moranbah – making it four out of five wins for the month.
“I still haven’t got myself a clean month,” he said.
“My horse on Friday night was a tough, old campaigner. I won Dalby Rodeo on him last year in October but he was tough on Friday and he’s the kind of horse that every buck hurts.
“He actually threw me just after the eight second whistle.
“It wasn’t the night I wanted but luckily I was still able to place on him.
“It’s bitter-sweet when I was so close to a perfect month.”
The Proserpine cowboy, the 2014 APRA Rookie Bareback Champion, also won events in Nebo, Mt Morgan and Biloela during May.
Remarkably it was the second time this year Lee has come close to recording a perfect month, falling just short in February.
Lee will hit the road again this weekend for the Bowen River Rodeo and Campdraft, hoping to make it seven wins from eight starts.
NEARLY PERFECT: Rider Owen Lee, pictured on Don't Tease Me in Warwick earlier this year, fell just short of recording a perfect month.
