Long road ahead for Dave

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

SIMONE Andersen wants to thank the Whitsunday community from the bottom of her heart.

The local mother of two has spent the past two and a half months hoping her husband Dave will pull through after a tragic boating accident during the Easter break.

Mr Andersen suffered second degree burns to 90 per cent of his body but has finally left an intensive care unit, moving to a burns ward in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Mrs Andersen has been buoyed in her darkest hours by the support her family has received from their home community.

Several fundraisers held under the banner What a Difference a Dave Makes have raised about $42,000 for the Andersen family.

Family friend and What a Difference a Dave Makes com- mittee member Paul Atkins said it was important the community continued to help during what was sure to be a long road to recovery ahead.

“David’s physiotherapy and recovery is going to be ongoing for a considerable amount of time and these things aren’t all covered by health insurance,” he said.

As part of the fundraising initiatives, a 12-month 18m berth, donated by Abell Point Marina owner Paul Darrouzet, will be sold for the best offer. The berth is suitable for an 18m monohull or 12m catamaran and the package includes parking and electricity.

Bids can be made by phoning Mr Atkins on 0400 067 989 or through www.facebook.com/whatadifferenceadavemakesfundraiser.
