Final chance for recurrent drug offender
A FESTIVAL-GOER has barely escaped jail time after being caught in the possession of cannabis and a homemade smoking utensil
On May 10, police were on patrol during the Grooving the Moo concert in Townsville when they noticed a vehicle parked at a McDonald’s restaurant.
Police inspected the car and found Caleb Luke Jones sitting in the passenger seat.
Police prosecutor Elizabeth Smith said the 32-yearold local smelt of cannabis.
A search revealed a container that held 0.51g of cannabis and an Oak milk bottle that had been turned into a water pipe. After listening to the facts, magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist noted the defendant had last year been sent to drug diversion – “which you breached”.
Jones was sentenced to four months imprisonment for the possession of cannabis and two months for having the water pipe.
Both periods of imprisonment were wholly suspended for 12 months.
