Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

A MACKAY man has been fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for a year after blowing more than four times the legal blood-alcohol limit.

On June 5 at 4.37am, police stopped a red Mazda sedan on Jones Rd, Cannonvale, after the driver, David Eaton, failed to manoeuvre a turn and col- lided with the front side of a police vehicle.

Police approached the 21year-old and pulled the keys out of the car’s ignition.

When questioned about the incident, Eaton said he had starting drinking fullstrength vodka at 9.30pm and didn’t stop until 3am.

A blood-alcohol analysis revealed Eaton’s reading to be 0.215 – more than four times the legal limit.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist noted the defendant’s blood-alcohol level was at the high end of the scale.

“This is a very big reading,” he told Eaton.
