Cannabis a court theme

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

A 60-YEAR-OLD local has been found in possession of more than 50g of cannabis.

On April 20 at 3.30pm, police searched Grahame Marshall’s Jubilee Pocket address, finding a container and four clip seal bags of cannabis, a set of scales and scissors with cannabis remnants on them.

All up quantities of 28g, 14g, 7g, 7g and 3.7g were found.

Marshall told police he smoked the cannabis for medical reasons, however he was unable to produce a medical certificate.

Additionally, police prosecutor Elizabeth Smith said Marshall had a “long, pro- tracted drug history”.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said self-medicating with cannabis was a common theme before the Proserpine court.

He sentenced Marshall to a total imprisonment period of nine months but with an immediate parole release.
