Mackerel Muster is fishing fun
LOCAL anglers can pick themselves up a handsome cash prize for a weekend on the water thanks to the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s Mackerel Muster.
The event will see fishers fighting it out to take home the biggest Spanish mackerel of the day, with a $500 prize for the man and woman who take out the title.
Whitsunday Game Fish Club president Jamie Lovenbury said the event was all about the love of fishing.
“It’s just a family, fun fish- ing competition,” he said.
“It’s not aimed at making the club money or anything like that. We just want to get people interested in fishing.
“Anyone can get out and catch a mackerel.”
Now is the perfect time to chase the Spaniards too, Mr Lovenbury said.
“Mackerel season is firing up now and it’s predominantly what people chase this time of year,” he said.
“Recently there’s been some good catches of Spanish mackerel as well, so it’s look- ing to be a ripper weekend.”
