C-graders shine in monthly medal
The C-graders stole the show in last Saturday’s Airlie Beach Hotel Monthly Medal.
Kevin Campbell was the overall and C-grade winner on the day, carding 66 to finish one clear of Trevor Paroz (67) in a near-record field of 79 men and 15 women.
The A-grade medal went to Larry Muller (69) while Kevin Duffy was the best of B-grade with 88.
Caroline Awdry was the women’s winner with 66, edging out Ann Gardel (75) and Trish McNeill (76).
The men’s rundown included Rob Wilson, Barry Mortimer (68), Merv Hinton (69), Dave Smith, Troy Hayes, Peter Krause and Travis Clinch (70).
Nearest-the-pins went to Max Lamb (No.2), Grant Kerslake, Paula Wronski (9), Ross Meade (13) and Mel Patullo (16).
Last Thursday, a reduced field of 37 took part in a versus par round. The best score of the day went to division two’s Peter Krause who carded +6 ahead of Brendon Meharry (+4).
Division one was won by Mick Burrows (+2) while Jon Kent, Chris Doblo, Peter Fox (+1) and Paul Joice (0) comprised the ball rundown.
The nine-hole competition was won by Peter Scrivens (+4) from Peter Fox (+3), Brendon Meharry, Dave Gates and Steve Mitchell (+2).
Nearest-the-pins went to Mick Burrows (2 and 13), Paul Joice (9) and Peter Stone (16).
This Saturday, players will attempt to qualify for the 2015 matchplay championships. The top 32 scorers will ad- vance.
In other news, Thursday players will compete in a stableford event in two divisions over nine and 18-holes.
It will also be the farewell day for long-term greenkeeper John Grosskreutz.
Ten juniors teed-off last Sunday afternoon at the Proserpine Golf Club.
Rian Mitchell was the gross and nett winner of the threehole competition, carding 22 and three ahead of Logan Devery and Lucas Creaton.
Jack Valmadre was the sixhole gross winner while Harper Henderson-Feldman (28) took the nett prize ahead of Jack (29) and Jaxon Henderson-Feldman (37).
Levi Holmes took home both the gross and nett prizes in the nine-hole competition.
Penny Wardroper won the McNeill Building Monthly Medal last Wednesday, pipping 13 other golfers.
Penny scored 72 to finish clear of Jacqui Wall (73), Marlene Gray (74) and Melanie Patullo (75).
Nearest-the-pins went to Melanie Patullo (16) and Jo Muller (9) while the former also finished the day with the least number of putts (29).
The only chip-in prize of the day went to Jacqui Wall who chipped-in from 70m on No.14.
