Spann coasts through field for B Sin­gles ti­tle

Shane Spann com­fort­ably swept past his op­po­nents to win the Proser­pine Bowls Club’s B Sin­gles com­pe­ti­tion at the week­end.

In the first round of play on Satur­day, John Hen­der­son de­feated Ted Cullen 25-20 and Shane May won over Steve Lawrie 25-12.

Hen­der­son ad­vanced again in the sec­ond round af­ter win­ning against Vince Olsen 2516, while Spann ac­counted for May 26-8.

Else­where in round two, Jim Quod went down to Dan Robin­son 25-20 while Dale Haack ousted Lance Green­wood 25-13.

In the semi-fi­nals, Spann de­feated Dale Haack 25-7 and Robin­son ousted Hen­der­son 25-14.

The fi­nal was won by Spann, a 25-17 win­ner over Robin­son.

In other news, six keen play­ers turned up on Sun­day for so­cial play.

This week­end di­vi­sion five will play a pen­nants’ game against Mackay.

LADIES

On Wed­nes­day the fi­nals of both the Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles and B Sin­gles were played.

In the Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles Joan McGrath de­feated Lois Read 25-11.

Fran Porter de­feated Car­lie Al­bert­son 25-22 in the B Sin- gles.

Both th­ese ladies will con­test the Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons event at Pi­o­neer Val­ley next month.

In so­cial play, Mary Hedge­long, Joyce Pat­ullo and Jo Peasley de­feated Trudy Hanne, Lill Burke and Joy Jef­fries 23-17.

In other news, the club’s pen­nants team trav­elled to Sub­ur­ban on Thurs­day for their first round of play. Heather Brown’s team was de­feated 30-7 while Ma­ree Daf­fara’s unit went down 30-16.

This gave Proser­pine a to­tal of 23 to Sub­ur­ban’s 60.

The next two games are at Proser­pine to­day.

It’s a 9am start for the game against North­ern Beaches and a 1pm start for the game against Sa­rina.

Round four is on Fri­day in Mackay and round five on June 16 at Sa­rina.
