Another placing for Owen Lee

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

He has ridden All Shook Up five times in the past year but that familiarity wasn’t enough for Owen Lee to secure another win on the weekend.

Lee has been in red-hot form this year, winning six of his past seven bareback bronc events before the weekend’s Bowen River Rodeo.

On Sunday he added another $900 to the kitty for finishing second.

Lee recorded 76 points in Saturday’s round in what he described as a “clean sort of ride”, before adding 75 to his total on Sunday after drawing the same horse again.

“I mucked her up at the end,” he said.

“I didn’t help her out as much and she got tough.

“I didn’t go as well at the end of the ride but still managed 75 points.”

Despite not taking the overall win, Lee said he was enjoying his ever-growing relationship with All Shook Up.

“I draw her all the time,” he said. “I think that’s five times in the last 12 months, which is awesome because she’s a great horse to get on.

“She’s what we call a really ‘droppy horse’ – tough to ride and you’ve got to stay in time with her.

“If you get out of time she’ll throw you over her head.

“She bucked me off at Bowen River last year, so she’s the sort of horse that gets you a bit nervous.”

Lee plans to rest until the Blackwater Rodeo on June 20.
